I went to Roxas City to witness the highlights of the Western Visayas Tourism Assembly 2009 which is the Parade of Festivals. We stayed there for at least 3 days to experience Roxas City and Capiz and to explore it on our own. On our last night we decided to take a plunge on Roxas City’s emerging night life to complement our visit. We planned to try the newly opened Soul Superclub in Grandville (a mini version of Smallville in Iloilo). Unfortunately we failed to bring shoes and so we were not fit to get into the club instead we just settled at the fronting resto bar which looked cool, named Area One Resto Bar.
There was an entrance fee to get us in for 50Php with a free bottle of beer which sounds fair so we got in. The band plays pop songs and ballads in a very earsplitting volume that we could not even talk without getting close enough to hear. Nevertheless we ordered at least 2 bottles of beer each and we decided to look for another place so that we could relax and talk well enough having in mind to pay only just for the last bottle we had as the first one was already paid at the entrance. Getting the bill drew us into trouble when the waiter still brought us one last set of beer saying that it was the free beer we have with our tickets. We argued insisting that we just have to pay for the 2nd set of beers, crediting the first one with our tickets at the entrance. The poor nescient waiter asserted that he did not know that we had a ticket which in the first place they did not let us in without it and if so we should have opted then to enter without a ticket when the beers are sold for 35Php a bottle only, we must have saved a buck. After a heavy argument (as in heavy because we were like shouting each other to hear) and after talking to the cashier who obliviously advised us to just talk with the waiter, we paid for the 1 set of beers we had and went out. Alas! We were pursued by the dumb dull minded waiter on our way out and asked if we already paid the dues, what a total flunk.
Whenever I’ll be in Roxas again I’ll surely never step in Area One Resto Bar at all, anyway there are still other cool places to hang out in other areas such as Dante’s Cafe & Bar in front of Gaisano Marketplace. Also not until they lower the volume of the speakers for the band playing and to train there waiter well enough to know simple subtraction.
