A Day Tripping With Pepeng

Miagao Church

Santo Tomas de Villanueva Church, Miagao, Iloilo

Last Friday we were scheduled for an unwinding jaunt to the paradise island of Boracay but due to the dreaded typhoon that hit the country it was postponed. Instead we decided to go tripping on nearby hideaways and we are set for Nogas Island in Antique. In the morning of Saturday we found out that the banca that is servicing the route was too small and we were uncertain if it can take us to Nogas considering that the super typhoon was forecasted to make a landfall on that day. In desperation we just decided to go to the nearby town of Miagao, home to the UNESCO World Heritage church, the Santo Thomas de Villanueva Church despite the heavy downpouring of rain. The church’s façade was undergoing minor facelifts and cleaning, after capturing the magnificent Miagao Church, we decided to go to the town’s hall to get some tips on where to go next. Unfortunately the tourism section doesn’t hold office on Saturdays but a police officer gave us some heads up and directed us to the nearby falls.

Before leaving for the next destination we bought some breadstuff and litson manok to feed our starving tummies. On our way to Binugsukan Falls in Brgy. Bacolod in Miag ao, scattered rain showers started again to fell. We followed the directions as suggested by the cop, we traversed on bumpy quaggy terrains and the junctions are just so narrow that fit only one car with awful cliffs on the side. There was even a time that the in coming jeepney needed to stop to give us way. But as we go along, the view looking down the hilly roads overseeing the green rice fields and hills was quite entertaining and we were fond of taking pictures while in an all-terrain-adventure ride, such an epic experience. Right before we rich the jump off barangay to the falls we decided to fall back because of the danger that their might be landslides that might trap us their considering as well that we still need to walk at least 2 hours to reach the destination falls. Arriving towards the foot of the sloppy terrain we decided to stop and eat our food as we we’re all starving, we just made use of the small eatery along the roadside that serves batchoy at 13 Pesos.

After replenishing, we then decided to go to the city and just settled at SM Manduarriao to again compensate the desperation. We had a sidetrip at the UPV Miagao Campus to pose with the Oblation and did a shot of the most beautiful landscaped plaza of Guimbal. Actually we did enjoy so much and surely we are still planning to go on with our failed trip to Binugsukan Falls on our next escapades.
